Sometimes the obvious can become your "Niche".
I am the author of a psychological test using the selection of eightcolors. For several years I rented a black box computer to largecorporations to attract traffic into their tradeshow booths.
It was tremendously successful and those corporations reported that thetest created more traffic than their salespeople could handle. Knowingthat traffic to Web sites was also a very strong need on the Internet, Iarranged for the software to be written to operate the test. Next, I wouldmake the test available on commercial Web sites to increase theirtraffic.
This was an obvious "Niche" and I was receiving several e-mails weekly fromparents telling me that the test was helping them to understand theirteenagers. Many of the e-mails requested that I modify the testspecifically for teenagers.
Modifying the test was easy. But, how could I produce income from a Website that provided a free teenagers psychological test?
Why not offer an eBook to help parents of teenagers?
My background in psychology and the fact that I have attended severalworkshops on communication, seemed to bring a focus on my "Niche" for aneBook. I felt that most parents did not know how to successfullycommunicate with their children. That created the title: "SuccessfullyCommunicating with the Teenager".
Once my mind accepted that as my intent -- my goal -- everything started tocome to me to make this possible.
Within the first week, I found a message in a Newsletter talking about theability of Heather Colman to create powerful eBook covers. Next anotherNewsletter discussed the different software programs for creating adownloadable eBook. Then the domain name "teenagerblues.com" came into mymind. Amazing, the domain name was still available.
Next, I faced the fact that I must write a book!
Doing a little research, I excitedly discovered that no one had written abook on how to communicate with your teenager with the intent of making himor her more successful as a teenager and in their future life.
What a "NICHE"!
Weeks of writing and rewriting began to mold a book that was far beyondwhat I had early imagined. I was very proud of the final results. However, would someone else think that my message had value?
E-mailing the book to friends became my next step. How many of thesefriends would actually take the time to read and then report their honestfeelings back to me?
They actually read it! They found punctuation and grammar errors. Theybecame my Editors. Most importantly, all of them said that they were nowusing this information and the older parents wished that they had thisinformation when their children were teenagers.
Discover your "Niche" and become committed to making it happen andeverything seems to fall in place.
There is something unique about your life. You know something that veryfew people know and they are willing to pay you for that information. EBooks makes all of this possible. Before eBooks I would have neverconsidered becoming an author.
Now, I will sell a few thousand copies of my eBook and then submit amanuscript to the New York Publishers. What an opportunity!
Good luck on discovering your "Niche".
